They say your first trail race is something you'll never forget. For me, that memory is etched into the steep ridges around Bukit Mongkrang and Gunung Mitis. Entering the 30km category at Siksorogo Lawu Ultra 2025 wasn't just about running; it was about discovering a new level of endurance in the heart of Lawu Purba.

"Capek itu apa?" (What is tired?) became my mantra as the trail turned from soil to vertical roots.

The First Ascent: A Rude Awakening

I thought I knew about preparation, but the first climb up the hilly terrain of Tawangmangu is a different kind of reality. The elevation hits you immediately as you push through Cemoro Wayang. This wasn't a flat road; it was a technical forest trail where every step required total focus.

The Mental Grind

In the video, you can see the moments where the intensity peaks. The 30km category is deceptive—the total elevation gain of over 1,500m through the hills of Sekipan and the ridges of Mongkrang challenge your balance at every turn.

Siksorogo is famous for its "grit," and for a first-timer, that grit is physical. It's the feeling of your lungs burning as you navigate the technical descents and technical muddy sections.

Lessons from the Ridge

Crossing that finish line wasn't just a physical win; it was a mental shift. Trail running through these ancient hills teaches you that "tired" is often just a state of mind that can be pushed through with the right rhythm and persistence.

The technical trails of Bukits and Gunung around Lawu gave me a brutal but beautiful introduction to trail racing. I'm already looking forward to the next one.
